Summer Strumming, Open Sky Community Services’ ValleyCAST Brings the Blackstone Valley Bluegrass to Downtown Whitinsville

Despite the August heat, bluegrass music filled the grounds of the historic Whitin Mill Thursday evening as Blackstone Valley Bluegrass took the stage for ValleyCAST's weekly summer concert series.

“These events are open to the public every year,” said event organizer David Wolfe. An audience of more than 40 people sat in lawn chairs and sang along. One fan described the event as “a great place to meet other members of the community.”

Blackstone Valley Bluegrass is a four-member band that was formed in the summer of 1998. Although the lineup has changed over the years, the band is still playing its songs nearly three decades later, including its original song “Passenger Train.”

ValleyCAST, located in the historic Alternatives Whitin Mill in downtown Whitinsville, is the arts and culture wing of Open Sky Community Services. Its programming includes exhibitions, workshops, theater, music, and other community arts events, with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusion.
